Match Preview:

Both India and New Zealand are missing some of their biggest names, and both have displayed good ODI results recently, making this a keen contest.
Indian team that will take the field for the first ODI of the series against New Zealand will be very different from the one that won the Test match, with none among Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman present. Also missing from India's first choice ODI Eleven, will be sachin,Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Gautam Gambhir, while it remains to be seen whether captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has recovered from the finger injury that hampered his keeping during the third Test.
While New Zealand too, like India, have brought a fairly youngish, new-look side for the series. Missing from the ranks are stalwarts Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum, who have both been granted paternity leave by New Zealand Cricket, while Jesse Ryder has not yet recovered either from his injury or from his propensity to get into drunken trouble.

Teams:

India XI:(probable): 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Dinesh Karthik/Virat Kohli, 3 Rohit Sharma, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 6 Suresh Raina, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 Praveen Kumar, 9 Abhimanyu Mithun, 10 Pragyan Ojha, 11 Ashish Nehra

New Zealand XI (probable): 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Peter Ingram, 3 Ross Taylor (capt), 4 Kane Williamson, 5 Scott Styris, 6 Grant Elliott, 7 Gareth Hopkins (wk), 8 Nathan McCullum, 9 Daryl Tuffey, 10 Kyle Mills, 11 Tim Southee/Andy McKay

Pitch and conditions
No cricket has been played at the Dambulla stadium since the Asia Cup which means there will be plenty of juice in the fresh, greenish track on Tuesday. To balance that is the fact that the boundary ropes have been pulled in at least 10 metres from where there were during the Asia Cup.
